Found this cool enormous tictac multipack box. If only they really came that size – ultimate mintiness…

This on the other hand is just an unfortunate name in English – admittedly it’s not that bad, but it doesn’t exactly scream “eat me eat me!!”

Quite possibly the best quote ever from one of the best holiday reads ever (My Family and Other Animals, not The Spanish Friar…)

And while I’m at it, I proudly introduce our beach buddy (much to my sister’s disgust, and my amusement!). We didn’t go as far as naming this one, although Lizardo and Lizardina were cute enough to name – pity they were too speedy to photograph.

Last but not least, I love the road signs – the characters are amazing! It’s like a severely out of context maths book.

I’m back in the UK after a lovely (and well deserved if I may say so myself) trip to Griechenland. Note to self: always allow a day between flying and working… By some strange stroke of unlucky luck, we were evacuated by the Police at lunch time what with the area being filled with great plumes of smoke from a nearby fire. It was a shame really, I’d got lots to do and was feeling comparatively enthusiastic! Second day back and all was well, no more signs of smouldering or fumy clouds, only a few solitary Police scattered around. Order has been restored.
I have a placement! Yay! Don’t think I’ve been this excited in months! Lots of hard graft and stress to come, but it’ll all be worth it in the end – oh the wonders of experience
As you can quite probably tell, it’s been quite a while since I posted anything at all here… But it has been quite a hectic few months, so I can forgive myself! I am now officially the proud owner of a nice shiny BA(Hons) Visual Communication (Graphic Design) which is quite exciting!! Now for the serious business of finding a job – a miserable prospect at the moment what with the whole lack of jobs malarky. But I shall not be detterred! Much..
But before I let myself get too miserable, I’m going to post this delightful link to our fab grad website where you can peruse the wonders of the Vis Comm class of 2009 at your leisure:
I can finally breathe a sigh of relief – I’ve decided on the topic for my dissertation (and none of this airy fairy ‘kind of about this, but looking at this’ nonsense!). Lovemarks: The Shift from Attention to Attraction in Branding.
I’ll be looking at the notion that it’s no longer good enough to shout about your brand and tell people that you have what they need, brands need to entice the audience and focus on what the consumer really wants. I’ll also be talking about the importance of building a dialogue with the consumer. So there you have it, the briefest little outline of a dissertation known to man – but it’s a more solid start than I had a couple of days ago!
I’m busy trying to juggle about 50 million different things at the moment – my dissertation, professional practice and negotiated project are all due in in Jan (which sounds a long way off, but it really isn’t!!), and to make matters worse, I’ve got a stupid cold so I have to fit in some self-pitying time too!
I’m attempting to rebrand Woolies for my uni project – they weren’t in quite as much trouble when I started as they are now, but I can safely assume that isn’t my fault! For my dissertation, I’m looking at the use of language in branding to define an audience (its final title isn’t set in stone yet, I keep coming up with long winded versions that just sound too waffley…) and I’ve just finished reading ‘Class, Codes and Control’ (Bernstein) which sounds really dull, but was actually quite interesting. I’m just waiting for the chaos to begin…
Welcome to my blog! I have no idea what to write here, but I’ve put this off for months so here goes! I’m part way through my final year at Birmingham City University, studying Visual Communication. It’s scary to think that in a few months time I’ll have to be out in the real world, but at the same time, I can’t wait! I’d like to work for a branding consultancy – preferably in the Midlands, but then again it’d be great to see some different scenery. But I have a while before that happens (well, thats debatable…), but for now, let the stress commence!
Hi! Welcome to my blog!
